Come on in...

Badass, adj.

1) belligerent or intimidating: tough, bad, nasty. Also used approvingly: formidable, terrific, superlative.

2) a film sub-genre, uncovered, studied and named by Dr. Mason Storm one cold Saturday afternoon in early March, 1998, whilst watching his mother's well-worn VHS copy of Steven Seagal's sophomore effort, Hard To Kill. Upon realising that Seagal's character bore more than a slight resemblance to himself, Dr. Storm became a 'critic' and strove to sort the bad from the badass.

Following that epiphany, Dr. Storm immediately sought out the work of other masters of the genre, from stalwarts such as Van Damme and Lundgren, and minor-leaguers such as Rothrock and Norton.

Having spent more than a decade studying the work of these genre artisans, Dr. Storm is ready for you, discerning reader, to benefit from his knowledge, and with the aid of The Hack (that'd be me, as a whispering Dr. Storm informed me that he "will never, ever play with computers, asshole" before giving me a dry slap to the neck) now you can. Hopefully you'll benefit from the man's research, and will one day understand and appreciate the true power of badass cinema. Then maybe Dr. Storm can get back to his unfinished business. They did kill his family and destroy his farm in Montana, after all.
